Is News all Bad??

I come from a family background, where watching the news at least twice a day is a ritual! My dad for one sees news at least 5 out of the 6 hours of television that he watches every day. The consequence of being in such a set up is that a day doesn’t feel complete without me getting a fair dose of news.
But recently I have become quite disillusioned from the news that we hear on a daily basis. And I am not even talking about the Hindi news channels here! Majority of the news items in the day are about deaths, wars, scandals, suicides, the political mess, and various other uncertainties in life. Everything is sensationalised and made into a breaking story. My basic worry is that it spreads negativity all around.
In this life full of tensions, the last thing you want to hear in the evening when you’re just unwinding from a busy day at work is that everything around you in the world is as bad as it gets! The Indian television serials give us no respite either.
I remember a time when watching the 9 o clock news was a pleasure. All of us used to sit together after a long day and discuss the happenings in the world. The “World this week” with a young Pranoy Roy was one of my favourite serials to watch.
So I have a question - is all the worlds news bad, depressing, sad? I am sure there must be something good happening somewhere in this world that can be conveyed to us! And I for one wouldn’t mind listening to it one bit! Give us a reason to smile sometime in the 60 minutes of the broadcast. After all we deserve to ... everyday!

Untangling the TAG Tangle

Anyone who has travelled from the Gurgaon expressway, would have once in their lives thought about the mess that's created at the Toll Plaza everyday at the Tag lines. For the unfortunate people like us who have to travel on that road almost everyday, having the ease of having to not stop at the toll courtsey the automated Tags is no ease at all!! Reason: Cars with no tags enter these lines almost without any problem and you're always standing there in the queue wondering when will that day come, when we'l have a smooth ride through without any stopages.. The truth however is that if the government does not take any action then this shall never stop and our miseries shall continue! In their defence they have put barriers and traffic marshals to stop the non tag cars to enter those lanes, But only in vain.

So whats the solution to this problem?

I have two actually. Both however are punitive because the only way I think you can stop people from doing an offence here and in fact everywhere, is to scare them of the consequences.

So, the first and the most easiest option is to put a fine of some xyz amount , it can be anything 20 -30-40- 50 rs., that the cash cars need to pay this amount extra, if they enter those tag lanes. Just need to put a board on top saying Tag users Rs. 18 and non Tag users Rs 58. I'm sure no one without a Tag would ever get into those lanes again, apart from someone with an extreme emergency!

The other solution is to put cctv's on every line and take a picture of all the cars who pay cash on these lines and send them a chalaan at home. This too can be easily implemented by just putting a board saying "Camera's installed, offenders will be punished."

I'm sure the Haryana Government would be more than glad to get the money it collects from these fines. The only question is will anyone ever take this problem seriously and take action?? Because from the looks of it, i'm not too sure that too many people up there are too bothered about this nuisance that we go through everyday.

Food Food everywhere Not a Grain to eat!

I’ve often wondered how our countries top officials manage the food situation of our nation. It was in the headlines a couple of days back that in a remote village in Orrisa people still die of starvation! That there is still a large part of our population who doesn’t get proper nourishment and basic amenities like food and water, baffles me! I fail to understand how difficult it is to provide food to all the people of the country. If I was the minister in these backward states, I would leave everything and just concentrate on this one aspect of life. It is a right of every individual living on this earth to have a decent full of food intake for himself. Our country is fortunate enough to have a food grain surplus. Grains that are rotting in warehouses across the country but not reaching the ones who actually are in most need of them. It is very disappointing to read such stories.

Countries like US and UK have overcome this 45 years back. The "food for work" policy has worked in all these top nations and its high time India takes to this seriously as well. Its a very basic issue, something that goes unnoticed in our bigger, more complicated problems, but it needs to be tackled asap! I just hope someone in'charge of this situation can get their act together.. fast!

My very first blog, actually wanted to start writing since long back.. but because of an amazingly busy "Banking" schedule.. i could never manage too.. but now since I have a business to manage.. (which should actually be making me even more out of time but its not! ;) ) i'm starting my own blog!!! Yippeeeee...
So now that i've finally managed to make a blog.. i've to now decide what im going to be writing about. Well to think about it I dont necessarily have a favourite subject... I'm going to be writing on any topic that I feel is relevant to us. So here's to a fresh beginning. Hope I can make it interesting for all. And if not.. then I always have my family for the accolades! ;) LOL..
